Iceland Airport : Keflavik International Airport
Keflavik International Airport lies on the Reykjanes peninsula, seven minutes from the town of Reykjanesbaer (Keflavik) and 50 km southwest of Iceland´s capital Reykjavik (about a 40-minute drive).
Keflavik is the main international airport for Iceland. It features modern passenger and commercial facilities as well as extensive aircraft operation areas. Sitting astride the North Atlantic route linking Europe and North America, the airport is of major importance for technical stops and as an alternate airport on the North Atlantic as well as polar routes.
The airport is well equipped and highly secure, with two runways: 02/20, 3054 x 60 m, and 11/29, 3065 x 60 m. All approaches are free of obstruction, and the airport is equipped with today´s most advanced approach systems. Runways 11 and 20 are Category II; runways 02 and 29 Category I.
Keflavik serves all types of aircraft 24 hours a day. It is non-congested: In 2007, it handled 27,000 commercial movements as well as 23,000 military and general aviation movements, and served more than two million passengers.
